Heart Friends and Affirmation

The weekend; sometimes saying the word with the proper emphasis gets the point across.  If not I’ll elaborate.  Unexpectedly excellent time with friends always brightens the horizon and affirms the way life is meant to be experienced.  Established friends welcome you back to their company and new friends are open to your warmth.  These words reverberate as I recall the start of the weekend on Friday evening with a scheduled visit to my dear friend, confidant and a heart sister.  She accommodated my shelter needs by sharing a slice of her sanctuary; a comfortable enclave ensconced in an open and loving community.
Her neighbors stopped by to say hello.  We engaged in varied and enjoyable conversation for three hours reluctantly breaking up at 1 a.m. Friendly and genuine aren’t powerful enough adjectives to describe the three visitors.
Saturday started slowly with breakfast at a local eatery and visiting with another close girlfriend chit-chatting about life and the challenges we face.  Conversations that include unfettered sharing strengthen the bonds of caring and interdependence.
Sure, we consider ourselves independent but as my close friends say, independence and interdependence are not mutually exclusive.  One supports and encourages the other, similar to friendship and love; protective, encouraging and nurturing.
Saturday found us in familiar shopping mode – yes girls shop.  But not the hunt and capture.  We enjoy the social nature of shopping as we wander the many purveyors of durables and perishables.  We search for treasures to add to our trove.  We help each other with styles, colors and coordination suggestions.
The evening carried us to a familiar dining establishment and more conversation that lubricated the hinges on the door to our soul.  When you can reveal yourself to another and feel protected you know you’ve arrived at true and lasting friendship.
Sunday sauntered in, uniting with more friends and enjoying fare at an open and welcoming establishment that added fun to the gathering.  The furtive glances from the men at the bar between the dining room and the rest rooms brought smiles of satisfaction.  Men will be men and women will always have the upper hand.  Not so sorry guys but we are the stronger gender.
Sunday evening brought dinner with one of my children, our first together. After that we enjoyed a movie at one of the newest recliner chair, utmost customer comfort cinemas. We laughed and fought back tears of empathy as the plot unfolded effortlessly and smoothly.
The end of the evening encouraged conversations with a third of my kitchen cabinet (a terms utilized by a successful multiple term president to describe his most trusted confidants and advisors).  They imbued me with confidence at the beginning of the weekend and I needed to convey the success.
Monday looms on the horizon, one more day off the calendar moving me closer to the date when I can truly live 24x7 the way my creator intended.  My operating system will finally be installed in the box that identifies it to the world as unified and complete.
Have a wonderful day and looking forward to your stopping by tomorrow to read my next post.

Love and hugs, Nikki DiCaro
