Some days the thought process stalls. The gears of diverse thought are mired in
oatmeal laced with honey and almost frozen solid. Today is one of those days. So much to say sometimes and other times not.
Wednesday the midpoint – hump day, Pumps Day - sparks more
thoughts of friendship and reconciliation.
Is too much of a good thing really excessive? Or is there never too much of a good thing? With all the turmoil generated by extreme
thinking; too much far left and far right, not enough squarely in the middle, how
should we respond? Spin is alive and
well. We do good things and a group
takes umbrage. Confused and frustrated
you may throw up your arms, shake your head and walk away.
Should we permit others to determine the outcome? You know the answer. Anything worth having is worth fighting to
perpetuate.
My experiences indicate acceptance, although sometimes
nascent, is not relegated to tiny pockets of open-minded people. Forget the snide comments – no matter what
you do there will be miscreants. Your
goal should be to build majority.
Unanimity will never be attained.
Don’t believe me? History is
littered with examples of minority pockets of negativity, refusal to adapt, to
accept that all who walk have inalienable rights; not only the ones who conform
to rigid, tired and expired standards. So why focus on the hardboiled few? Let them stew in their juices. If they choose to cordon themselves from the
better parts of society, it’s not up to us to burn energy on futile causes.
With this as a backdrop let’s see if we can find another
rally site for a continuation of the most recent weekend. Let’s build threads of connection to other
geographies. Till the soil, plant seeds
and cultivate. Every forest started with
a solitary tree. Trees continue to grow
and multiply against resistance and attempts to contain the forest. Deforesting does occur. Let’s label that insular thinking – those who
attempt to lay concrete and asphalt and other impervious surfaces in the form
of exclusionary rules, statutes and laws.
We are the farmers, the arborists, the gardeners. We are also the flowers, trees, bushes and
other naturally occurring plant life.
Yes I said “naturally occurring”.
We need to live like we believe in ourselves, our cause. This is a crusade of sorts. We are out to slay the dragon of
misunderstanding. We’ll not do it by the
sword. Bloodshed never accomplished
anything lasting. Grassroots movements,
winning over people’s minds and hearts happens when kindness is our instrument
of choice. Doubt me? See how far we’ve come. Stop looking in front
of you trying to see the finish line.
This journey, this trek will never end.
Again, if you don’t believe, recall the past 200 years of development in
this nation. Have we perfected
anything? Battles rage. We can be guerillas by influencing the
populace one pocket at a time. Let’s
deploy companies among the indigenous and show them we are like them;
inextricably linked to them.
Would you be interested in another weekend long event like
Raven in a different venue? Would you travel to lower New England for a weekend
of fun and frolic in an inviting locale or is one weekend every other month
enough?
This may seem a bit premature but this is not a flight of
fancy. Let me know if you have interest
in a weekend with other unconventionals and we’ll see if we can make it happen.
Have a wonderful day infiltrating and changing people’s
thinking for the better.
Love and hugs, Nikki DeCaro
